The new survey - Periodic Labour Force Survey - provides labour and employment data for urban India every quarter and for rural India annually. It was launched by the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation. Earlier, the Ministry used to gather such data for every five years.

Highlights
• Launched in April 2017
• It will help in gathering labour data on both the formal and informal sectors
• This kind of survey is being tried for the first time in India
• Data will be collected from both large and small firms
• First set of data will be released in December 2018
• The Survey will also incorporate a Computer Assisted Personal Interviewing (CAPI) method, where in field operators will use tablets to enter data for more accurate and timely information
