SAARC Satellite Becomes A Reality

India has successfully launched South Asia Satellite or GSAT-9 on 5th May 2017, strengthening cooperation with it’s South Asian neighbours. The 2,230 kg spacecraft will support  communication, broadcasting and internet services, disaster management, tele-medicine, tele-education and  weather forecasting in a region that is geographically challenging and economically lagging with limited technological resources.

GSAT-9 carrying 12 Ku band transponders was put into a temporary ovel orbit by the GSLV-F09from Sriharikota in coastal Andhra Pradesh. The launch is estimated to have cost India Rs.450 Cr. It’s application touch everyday life and the neighbours use it free of cost. Earlier Pakistan had opted out of the project terming it as solely an Indian project and not a regional effort.
