Demonetization continues to seethe
This isn t the first time that a demonetization drive has been undertaken in the country. But the surprising way it was imposed on the people of the country, after banning the currency notes of Rs. 500 and Rs. 1000 left people bereft of money to buy even food. It has been 8 days since its initiation on 8-9th November, the country is still reeling under its impact and will continue to do so till next 50 days at least. Besides the surprising nature is the apparent inadequate planning. One can understand the necessity of secrecy but the move definitely could have been planned better especially when one is planning to suck out 86 per cent of the currency in circulation. This is especially hard on street vendors, daily wagers and farmers. So it doesn t cut steel when a teary eyed prime Minister asks the country to bear with him. The demonetization is no doubt the boldest move of the incumbent government.
