Green bonds leading the green way
Green bonds are issued to finance environmentally friendly assets, businesses and investments. Green bonds have emerged as one of the key financing mechanisms to drive the global economy to a greener future. The first green bond was issued by World Bank and European Investment Bank in 2007. Since then, green bond market has grown exponentially, with issuance doubling to $81 billion in 2016. In 2015, the countries first green infrastructure bonds were issued by Yes Bank. Financing through Green bonds is important for sunrise sectors like renewable energy.
