Indias Growing Ties with Africa
India Africa ties are going strong in the recent times, especially after the successful India-Africa Forum Summit held in Delhi in 2015. The latest development is the annual general meeting of African Development Bank being held in Gandhinagar, which is also a sign of the close cooperation and mutual trust African countries have with India. Though India had historical ties with Africa with a shared past of anti-colonial struggle the engagement has been not quite smooth in the past owing to several issues like civil strives and cold war politics. The first India-Africa Forum Summit was a serious attempt at a strategic partnership with the whole of Africa. In the recent years, India had close cooperation with African countries in international platforms like WTO , COPs of UNFCCC, International Solar Alliance, etc. India gained it s place in Africa as a supplier of low cost technology transfers, supplier of affordable generic medicines, etc. India has also contributed significantly to the development of Africa and has given export credit of 10 billion dollars in 2015. While China is influencing Africa with it s economic might, India is forging a close cooperation with it s shared values and soft power.
