Readying the world for trump s america
The America is keenly watching the US President elect Donald Trump draft his cabinet with a mix of people from the old guard of the Republican Party, former military officers and billionaires with no experience in public office. The brash and “unpredictable” future President of United States has turned predictable as far as his policies and team of advisors are concerned. This fact is emerging from his selections for important administration positions in his team. From selecting an Attorney General facing allegations of racism, a climate denier to head the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), an Education Secretary who believes the American public school system must be dismantled, a Labour Secretary who does not support wage increases and heads a company that employs a large number of low-wage workers himself and so on. In words of Robert Reich, Professor of Public Policy at the University of California, “this is nihilistic”. India would probably have to start from scratch now to wiggle its case for NSG with the new administration. Going by his election campaign rhetoric to “Buy American, hire American”, Trump s policies are expected to be protectionist. With the surprise of Donald trump s electoral victory becoming a hard reality, the future of America is going to be full of more surprises.
