The continuing pakistan saga
The hyphenation of India-Pakistan relationship continues in all its glory since Independence and looks well entrenched in history to continue in perpetuality. Prime Minster Narendra Modi initiated a friendly approach towards Pakistan at his swearing-in ceremony by inviting his counterpart Nawaz Sharif to the event. But ever since then, everything has proceeded in a downward trajectory for India-Pakistan relationship. Not that it is surprising given the recalcitrant attitude of Pakistan towards every goodwill gesture and lenient attitude displayed by India towards its repeated support and sponsoring of non-state elements, and terror attack etc. The ongoing firing and ceasefire violations at border since Uri attack has continued in intensity with mutilation of Indian soldiers by Pakistan army only exacerbating the Indian military reaction. The ongoing Kashmir turmoil has given Pakistan an opportunity of raising the issue internationally. It is time to calibrate a clear approach, difficult as it is, on how to deal with Pakistan given the fact that since Independence we have tried every possible way of making a breakthrough with our partitioned counterpart.
