The shimmering behind the wall
A chameleon is only visible when it shows its different colors otherwise it may have as well been a simple lizard. Similar is the public discontent. When we finally see it, we realize it must have been seething beneath the surface; otherwise we would have refused to acknowledge its existence. Take the case of Donald Trump. Until he jolted into American political scene, no one would have thought poor workers would unite behind a billionaire who specializes in avoiding paying taxes and fair wages to his employees. Similarly, no one really though, including its then Prime Minister that Brexit would happen. But the lower-class discontent among its Briton voters was tapped through final election results. It would seem that poverty and deteriorating economic conditions would pit the miserable poor against the political elites. But is it really true? The feeling of economic deprivation is linked to particular social and political conditions. While living in a well-governed society creates a sense of security; bad governance, corruption and injustice give rise to a sense of economic marginalization. This is what can perhaps explain the syllables of victory of Donald Trump as President of US.
