Warring over MDR
When demonetization drive began, the government had assured the public that the card usage will be free and MDR will be waived off till December 31, 2016. Now the petroleum retailers have threatened to stop using debit and credit card payments facing the resumption of merchant discount rate (MDR) which is borne by either consumer or dealer on the card payments. The banks levy the MDR of up to 0.25 to one per cent on debit and credit card payments.
