Where does india s nuclear policy stand
Ever since nuclear weapons arrived on global arm arsenal, they have been labeled as destructive and dangerous to the existence of entire paraphernalia of species and the world as we know it. Historical experiences of different countries have helped shaped their nuclear doctrines. In 2003, India issued a statement on operational sing India s Nuclear Doctrine. This includes “posture of No First Use ”, “maintaining a credible minimum deterrent”, “non-use of nuclear weapons against non-nuclear weapon states etc. India is a responsible nuclear power. India doesn t see nuclear weapons as weapons of war. The role of nuclear weapons is limited to securing itself against nuclear threats or coercion. And it is no secret that this restraint is to build defense against Pakistan and China. Recently, the India s No First Use policy has been under debate following Defense Minister Manohar Parrikar s statement “Why should I bind myself [to it]? I should say I am a responsible nuclear power and I will not use it (a nuclear weapon) irresponsibly.” But the official position remains the same as before.
