The country’s first indigenously developed Air Borne Early Warning & Control system will be formally unveiled soon.

Flown on an aircraft — a modified Embraer EMB 1451 — the system provides early warning to the military about enemy aircraft.

The system has been developed by the DRDO. The development of AEW&C will put India into a select club of countries possessing capabilities to develop such an advanced system and the complex technologies associated with it.

The Brazilian-make plane was customised to fit in the primary radar, identification of friend or foe (IFF), electronic support measure, communication support measure, data link, Satcom, the mission voice communication system and a self-protection suite along with a mission system controller and a data handling and display system.
