Visually Impaired NL Beno Zephin Clears Civil Services 2013

NL Beno Zephin, a visually impaired candidate from Tamil Nadu, has secured All-India Rank of 343 in the Civil Services 2013 exams. "Preparing for the civil services made it easy for me to clear other competitive exams," she said.

24 year old Beno got a few books Brailled, and for the rest she got help from her father and friends. Her father used to read the newspaper to her every morning. She was helped by the Jaws screen reader for more information.

She is also pursuing PhD in English literature from Bharathiar University and has a full time job as a Probationary Officer in SBI. "I learnt to balance both and understood how to use my time efficiently in the process," she said.

Her father works for the railways and mother is a homemaker.

At least two other candidates, Sujitha from Chennai and Krishna Gopal Tiwari from Varanasi, also with visual disabilities, were also selected in Civil Services 2013.
